Elon Musk’s new company has sparked quite the public interest. “I have this, it’s sort of a hobby company, called The Boring Company, which started out as a joke,” Musk said in a recent interview. The project has begun with a mile long tunnel underneath the city of Los Angeles.

Elon and his team already envision a bold future for tunnel travel underneath major metropolitan areas.

Musk proposes that the a major inefficiency in transportation is due to the fact that we live in a 3D world while vehicular travel on roads is 2D. “In theory, you could have hundreds of levels of tunnel. The fundamental issue that we face is that so much of our life is 3D. You are in a tall building or dense office environment, and then we go to this 2D plane of streets. The consequences are obvious. You're losing an entire dimension.”

Elon suggests this unavoidably creates the dilemma of traffic. The entrepreneur concludes the proper way to solve this problem is to make transportation 3D as well by going underground. Musk has already proven his entrepreneurial prowess with companies SpaceX and Tesla. If there is a man who can revolutionize 21st century travel, Elon has already proven an ability to do so.
